The IELTS scholarship was established to promote the worldwide exchange of information and ideas, and its primary goal is to support Indian students who wish to study at institutions overseas. The scholarship is available for full-time postgraduate study at any international university that accepts IELTS as part of its entrance requirements and as a valid assessment of English language skills.

The scholarship program helps both people and the nations from which they are drawn, while also increasing higher education linkages between India and other countries.

There will be nine prizes, each with a monetary value of £10,000. In the first case, it will be used to pay for tuition. If the fees are less than £10,000, the leftover cash may be used to cover living expenses.

Indian students have a diverse range of university options, with over 2500 schools and programs in the United States alone recognizing IELTS. Students may utilize the award at any university in any nation other than India that accepts IELTS for postgraduate entrance criteria.

Eligibility for the British Council IELTS Scholarship

IELTS scholarships will be given to Indian students who satisfy the following criteria:

  • Must be an Indian resident and citizen;
  • Must have a valid IELTS score, with a minimum band score average of 6.5;
  • Must begin full-time postgraduate study outside India; and
  • You must be able to provide a letter of acceptance from your attending institution.

The IELTS Scholarship money is exclusively applied to the candidates’ tuition costs. After the British Council has formally recognized your standing with that university, the scholarship will be granted directly to that university.

Details about the British Council IELTS Scholarship Application and Selection

Only after receiving the IELTS results, one can apply for IELTS scholarships. Because IELTS results are valid for two years, prior years’ IELTS scores may be used to apply for the current IELTS Scholarship.

Before applying for an IELTS Scholarship, the candidate must first take an IELTS exam and get their results from the British Council.

Candidates must have the following papers to apply for an IELTS scholarship:

  • A complete application, including a copy of the IELTS Test Report Form and a recent photo.
  • Task – A (300-word limit).
  • If applicable, a disability certificate.

Then a panel of British Council officers selects the candidates based on their performance on the task completion criteria on the application form (i.e Task A). In this task, the candidate must respond in no more than 300 words to a question from the application.

Applicants who are shortlisted will be notified of their status through email. Before the time limit mentioned on the British Council website, all short-listed applicants must deliver a brief presentation on an assigned assignment and provide a letter of acceptance from a university that recognizes IELTS as part of their admissions criteria.

Failure to submit your letter of acceptance will result in your removal from the candidate shortlist.

The final eight winners will be picked by a panel of skilled external raters from India’s higher education and/or corporate sectors. To choose the winning students, the panel will thoroughly interview all of the short-listed candidates.

Hope it solved all your queries regarding the IELTS scholarship and all the best to a brighter future ahead.
